A graduate from Texas Christian University with an Executive MBA, a Chartered Life Underwriter (CLU), Registered Health Underwriter (RHU) and Regstered Employee Benefit Consultant (REBC) from the American College. John has more than 25 years experience in helping businesses and individuals with their insurance and company benefit needs. He has authored articles on insurance and estate planning for business newspapers, received numerous professional awards and has been featured in the media for his business and successful legislative endeavors.

John is a member of the Society of Financial Service Professionals, the Fort Worth Business and Estate Council, the National Association of Life Underwriters, and associate member of the Tarrant County Bar Association.

Mr. Merrifield is an advocate for child safety and headed a statewide coalition that successfully passed two seatbelt laws during 76th and 77th Texas Legislature. John has served on the Board of Trustees for Ronald McDonald House and Board of Directors including two terms as president of Ballet Concerto, scoutmaster, Assistant District Commissioner, and member of the District Committee of Trinity Trails District with BSA. He has held key roles including president both locally, and across the state in various church responsibilities. John and his wife Skylar are members of the Jewel Charity Ball benefiting Cook Children's Hospital and parents of four children.
